The New Studio

The new studio build.

My brief was a studio that was simple in design but one that would maximise the space on a gently sloping piece of ground in the corner of my garden.

I decided on a timber build and after much research settled on a London based company to carry out the project.

The build is faultless, everything from the heavily constructed and concreted in base through to the insulated roof has been constructed with care and precision. All timber is pressure treated and the cavity walls are fully insulated, as is the roof and floor, which is complete with DPC. The hardwood double glazed anti UV reflective ‘A’ rated windows are first class and naturally the building has a warm feel.

The studio is set back further from my original workspace in the house but the view of the estuary and boatyard is still good and by the way, the flooring that you can see in the photo’s is a cushion floor which I have put in, underneath which is a wooden floor.

Part constructed in the workshop, my new studio, platform and decking was built on site in 8 days.

If you are in need of a wooden building I cannot recommend Shane highly enough, he is professional, polite, and a complete expert with wood, furthermore he will work anywhere in the UK and even in Northern France. As for value for money, nobody came anywhere near him in terms of price, and to top it all the building and workmanship are fully guaranteed for 2 years. The only drawback is that due to word of mouth he is always busy and you will have to wait a few months for your building but I would be most happy to pass on any genuine enquiries.

Colours Of Christmas at The Blake Gallery

The Blake Gallery ~ Colours Of Christmas ~ Chris Billington

As we are now in November I thought it time to mention my forthcoming Blake Gallery exhibition in Kent.

Over the next 7-10 days I will be putting the finishing touches to my work for my ‘Colours Of Christmas’ exhibition which is to be held at The Blake Gallery, Gravesham’s premier contemporary space.

There will be 22 paintings on show and for those of you that know my work I am sure there will be one or two surprises. I am thrilled to be showing my work at The Blake Gallery, with it’s obvious connection to Sir Peter Blake, with whom I had a 2 man show at The Bristol Gallery in 2010, and so named after Sir Peter who trained at Gravesend School Of Art.

The exhibition runs through Christmas from December 3 – December 28 and full details will be published soon.

Tee Party Berlin

Tee Party Berlin invitation ~ Chris Billington

Well, what a week/end.

As if exhibiting for the first time in Maubeuge, France this past weekend with Michael Picoron, and the fabulous Marie Curie Charity Ball fundraising auction on Saturday was not busy enough I am delighted to say that some of my work is back in Berlin as part of the first major showing of some of the Sequoia Tees artists.

Remko Spaan, Sequoia Tees’ Director has embarked on a Europe/Worldwide tour showcasing of the artists that have been part of his amazing project for the past year, giving the public the chance to see the actual works behind his range of Limited Edition Tees.

Berlin is the first stop and the Tee Party Berlin is being held at THE WYE, a 20,000 sq ft building of the iconic Skalitzer Post which has recently reopened as Berlin’s newest international art house.

Marie Curie : Diamonds Are Forever : Charity Ball 2012

I am delighted that once again I have been asked to participate in the Marie Curie Cancer Care Cornwall’s biennial major fundraising event, the ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ Charity Ball.

This afternoon Marianne Wright and Angela Coote, from the Marie Curie Cancer Care Cornwall Fundraising Group, visited my studio to select a painting to be auctioned on the night of the 2012 Charity Ball, which is to be held at the Atlantic Hotel on October 20th.

‘Longview On Longships (ii)’, one of my paintings of Longships Lighthouse which was completed in 2009 was unanimously decided upon by the ladies and is pictured below.

At the 2010 Charity Ball Grand Auction my ‘Wonderland’ raised a considerable amount of money for Marie Curie and I am hoping that this years selection will do well for them. They need the money to help fund those wonderful Marie Curie nurses who help to care for cancer patients and the terminally ill.

Further details and ticket information can be found on the Marie Curie Cancer Care Cornwall ‘Diamonds Are Forever Charity Ball’ Facebook Page

Four paintings from my recent ‘2012 ~ Signs, Secrets & Symbols’ project will be on show at London’s Vibe Gallery later this month.

Work is well under way on my Christmas Exhibition paintings for my show at The Blake Gallery in Gravesham.

The Hall For Cornwall Carousel Horse project which features my ‘Sterren ~ A Star For Cornwall’ is well under way.

In addition there are several other projects under way and of course my paintings are available from The ARThouse Gallery in Bournemouth.

I am delighted to be one of 20 artists selected by Hall For Cornwall for their Carousel Horses Project with my painting for my exhibition piece ‘Sterren ~ A Star For Cornwall’ on display in the Carousel Cornwall Exhibition Of Ideas at the HFC later this week.

Sterren is of course Cornish for star, and I think quite an appropriate name for a Carousel Horse for Hall For Cornwall, home of the stars.

Painted in my usual colourful and bold style, and drawing on my Cornish heritage, Sterren is a large bright Cornish Gold star, surrounded by a carpet of sparkling stars and planets all set on a backdrop of deep blue to signify the colour of the Cornish sea all complemented with contrasting shades of blue.
