Exhibition News – Peter Blake : Alphabet @ The Bristol Gallery

I am delighted to be showing work alongside Sir Peter Blake, the iconic godfather of British Pop Art later this month.

A Hayward Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London on behalf of the Arts Council England is being staged in Bristol’s newest, and most fabulous exhibition space, The Bristol Gallery, featuring Peter Blake’s “A-Z” of “found letters”.

“Islands in the sun”, my series of 16 monoprints created in London studios late last year and informed by the wonderful Isles of Scilly will be exhibited at The Bristol Gallery along with Peter Blake’s “Alphabet”, and also with work from the late Sandra Blow.

In addition to the screenprints there will be a selection of my more acknowledged painted pieces in acrylics and oils by way of 4 of my paintings, “Carnival Fizz”, “Chair – Sitting Comfortably”, “Hot Rocks” and “Mylor”, a total of 20 works in all.

The exhibition runs for one month from Saturday 24th April to Sunday 23rd May 2010, and is on show at The Bristol Gallery . Millennium Promenade . Harbourside . Bristol . BS1 5TY .

Gyllyngvase series

The latest of my Gyllyngvase series, “Gyllyngvase (x)” has been added to the Paintings Gallery.

Those of you who follow my work will know that this painting has been a long time coming.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the painting the proces of arriving at the finished image has taken months to evolve and “Gyllyngvase (x)” marks a turning point in the direction of the series.

Also added to the gallery today is the recently finished “Walk The Plank”

Chris Billington Art Facebook Page

I now have a Facebook Page for fans of my work.

The purpose of the page is to compliment my website by offering a more interactive experience, comment, upload, discuss and genreally connect with me and my paintings in a more direct way.

There is a clickable link on the home page of my website, or you can join the page by the link below – which you may have already noticed.

Studio News

For those who keep asking here is a brief update.

I have updated the Paintings Gallery with details of the recently completed “Mylor”.

In my studio work is well under way with the Schirmer project.   Also nearing completion are “Fistral (i)” and “Fistral (ii)”.   Other ongoing paintings are “Gyllyngvase (X)” and  “388.63” plus “Afterglow at Men-an-tol” and also two, as of yet,  untitled works.

Recent sales include “Sahara Sun”, “Chilling Stars” and my beloved “Cosmic Snowmen”.  I did vow never to part with them but I was persuaded to let them go by a lady who already has many of my paintings, it is good to know that they are in good company.

Happy New Year & Highlights of 2009

First may I take this opportunity to wish all of my supporters and customers a very healthy and happy 2010, and thank you for investing in my work, long may it continue to bring you joy.

During 2009 I exhibited in Arizona, Atlanta, in the USA and twice in Falmouth, I appeared on Antony Gormley’s and One & Other’s  “The Fourth Plinth” project in Trafalgar Square.   I worked at one of the most prestigious printing houses in the world, Advanced Graphics.  My work has truly gone global with some now in collections in Moscow, Japan, and yet more in the USA.

I was interviewed by ITV in connection with my work for The National Trust and The St.Just Mining Trust in commemoration of the Levant Mining Disaster.  Also, amongst other press coverage during the year, Cornwall Life published a 2 page article about me in their November Issue.

In addition to my work with The National Trust I was most pleased and honoured to be able to help with other charities by way of donating work, in particular Tanya’s Courage Trust, Spectrum Art and The Precious Lives Appeal.

Also, in late 2009 I took the decision to have a website redesign.  This  was carried out to my exact requirements by Mat Harding in Penzance, who worked very closely with me to ensure that the design matched what I had in mind.

Finally I am most pleased to have been asked by the owners and management of  Zafiros in Truro to exhibit my paintings with them.  Zafiros is a unique space, a contemporary coffee bar/restaurant and I am very excited to be starting the new decade with a permanent exhibition there.

All in all, this past year has been very busy for me indeed and there have been many highlights.  Pictured below are a few of those moments, and once again thank you to all of those who have faith in, and who enjoy my work, without whom none of this would be possible.
