Sold Art | Oceans Of Europa | Art Mentoring

Sold Art, Oceans Of Europa, Art Mentoring and Chaos with Dinosaurs – some of my 2017 highlights

2017 was another successful year of work completed and sold art, with paintings sold ranging in subject matter from the ancient Cornish Hill of ‘Carn Marth’ to the depths of space, it was also a year in which I was privileged to be able to unleash some creativity and ‘Chaos with dinosaurs’ via a very special group of young adults..

Sold art last year included ‘Oceans Of Europa’ my 2017 painting depicting Jupiter’s moon Europa, which scientists believe has turbulent oceans beneath it’s frozen sixty mile plus deep outer layer.   Research suggests that these oceans may also have an Earth like chemical balance.  ‘Oceans Of Europa’ is my thinking of where this discovery might fit in the overall scheme of things.

I am always honoured and most grateful to all who continue to support and believe in my work, especially to those who have bought my paintings for the first time and my clients who continue to add to their collections of Billington’s.   I am particularly pleased that during early 2017 I sold a work of art to a most respected and highly esteemed art auctioneer.   It was gratifying to have been told by the auctioneer that he wanted to buy my 2011 painting ‘Saltdean’, from my Lido Exhibition of paintings of the same year at The Stoneman Gallery in Penzance.   ‘Saltdean’, he told me, was to be the only piece he would hang in the lounge of his waterside residence, overlooking the harbour.   Quite an endorsement from a professional art dealer who has seen many great pieces of art during his prestigious career and could have the pick from hundreds, if not thousands, of talented artists.   I am positive that ‘Saltdean’ will bring him many years of joy.

In addition to Saltdean, other sold art on 2017 from previous exhibitions included ‘Dark Side Of The Eifel’, a painting also from 2011, which featured in the Kunstaustellung im Kulturraum Kall  and also my solo exhibition ‘Black Kites : Eifel Gold’ in Bad Munstereifel, Germany

Other paintings sold in 2017 include Carn Marth, one of my paintings  with a focus on important sites in Cornwall, a theme which I revisit from time to time.  This painting was also from 2011.  Carn Marth is a Cornish site of landscape significance, it lies between the town of Redruth and the village of Lanner and is 771ft high.    In the 1980’s the Carn was purchased by The Carn Marth Trust in order to keep the ancient hill public and prevent the re-opening of granite quarrying.

The trust now run a fabulous events amphitheatre which features live music, film and theatre productions during the summer months.

2017 was a busy year with various ongoing projects, including completing some private commissions.   However a real highlight of 2017 for me was my involvement in art mentoring a gifted group of young people from the Chaos Youth Club in Truro.

The Chaos Youth Club is a club for young adults, 11+ and is part of the  Cafe Chaos – Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group.   With a colourful collection of art materials and aided by a bucket of dinosaurs which I brought along to stimulate the creative flow I soon had the group making some very expressive art and I look forward to my next art mentoring session with them in 2018.

Here are a few photographs of some of the results.

Once again my most heartfelt thank you to all supporters and fans of my art both here in the UK and from around the world.  I sincerely hope that as we move into the second month of 2018, this year brings you everything that you wish for.  As many of you know, it is my firm belief that ‘anything is possible’!
