An afternoon with Cecil Riley

Yesterday afternoon I spent a good few delightful hours with my good friend Cecil Riley, and his wonderful wife Joan Riley, both of whom are incredibly gifted artists.  Cecil and I had been planning this get together for a few weeks, probably since just after Christmas,  but for one reason or another didn’t quite get around to it until yesterday !!

He is an incredible man and even though he is still only a young 90 something I think it is about time that he had a little bit more exposure on the internet.   Over the coming weeks I will publish more information on Cecil and his art here on my news page….

Thank you Ana, I will pass that message on to him.

  3. Im a Retired engineer recently moved to Bergerac,
Ces taught me art and more from 1954 the Pye black box gramophone was used to convey a knowledge of music better than I acquired from (attempting to play) in the school orchestra.
I recall Hot Club de Paris & Stravinski
I discovered Cess in Cornwall, Macula degeneration severely limited his sight but he attempted to convey visual ideas in paint and got recognition on local TV & newspapers @97? Cess and the biology teacher Trinder could be rounded up from the local PH at 7pm to supervise the Astronomica society. Now thats the way to run a school!!!

Hello Douglas, And thank you for dropping by with your tales of Cecil. Often during our chats Cecil would fondly reminisce about his teaching days and some of the antics he got up to with his pupils, he would paint me vivid pictures of schooldays with his wonderful stories and went into great detail of some of the crazy things he got up to! Always he would tell me about the names of various pupils and was fond of you all, there are not many teachers who could have done that after so many years I am sure.

I hope that you are enjoying your new life in Bergerac, a special part of the world.
