Modern Art For Truro City

Modern Art for Truro City and the people of Truro.

In March of this year I was very proud indeed to present my painting ‘Three Spires Under Blue Skies’ to the Mayor of Truro, John Tamblyn, and a full meeting of Truro City Council.   To all Truronians and in fact all Cornish men and women the Three Spires are instantly recognisable and synonymous our capital, being the Three Spires of  Truro Cathedral.

Three Spires Under Blue Skies – Truro City Council 2018

As my Cornish ancestry goes back unbroken and for over 400 years as far as I can trace on my mother’s side this was a special moment for me.   Three Spires Under Blue Skies is an homage to ALL of the Cornish men and women from all backgrounds who have come before me.   Those who have worked in mining, fishing , agriculture and other trades  and professions vital to the economy of Cornwall and whose blood, sweat and tears forged this wonderful County and magnificent City out of the rugged Cornish granite landscape and Cornish Tin into the irresistible magnet that it is today.

Three Spires Under Blue Skies is for future generations to enjoy.    When I presented  the painting to the Council  I was told that it would be displayed in the Council Chambers for a few months before going into special storage at the end of the summer along with all of the portraits of past Mayors and works of art for safe keeping.   This would be done in readiness for the major redevelopment of the Truro Municipal Building which houses the City Council Chambers and The Hall For Cornwall.   In the meantime Truro City Council and the Mayor’s Office have now temporarily relocated to Union Place in Truro which will be their home until 2020.

I was even more delighted to be told this week that the current Mayor of Truro, Lindsay Southcombe, was so taken with Three Spires Under Blue Skies that rather than have the painting put into storage she had it installed in the temporary Mayor’s Parlour.   Thank you Madam Mayor.
